Candidates for City Council
Council term
Council members serve a four-year term. The Mayor serves a two-year term.
Requirements to be a candidate
- You must be a United States citizen
- You must be eligible to vote in Minnesota
- You must be twenty-one years of age or older upon assuming office
- You must live in St. Bonifacius for at least 30 days before the election
Filing to become a candidate
Candidate packets with the required forms are available in the City Clerk’s office at City Hall seven days before the filing dates.
For mayor (seat open in 2024)
- You must file an Affidavit of Candidacy with the city clerk.
- You must pay a $2 filing fee
For council member (2 - 4 year seats open in 2024)
- You must file an Affidavit of Candidacy with the city clerk.
- You must pay a $2 filing fee
Withdrawing from an election
To withdraw from an election, a candidate has to file an Affidavit of Withdrawal with the City Clerk. A candidate has until 5 p.m. two days after candidacy filing period to withdraw. After that date, candidates cannot file an affidavit of withdrawal. (MS205.13, subd. 6).
